Northwest Spirit Rotarians supported Orange Shirt Day 2022 across District 5370. This has been a priority for our club members since we charted in 2020.
Last Year, the Northwest Spirit Rotary Club sold orange shirts, with the permission of the Orange Shirt Society, to raise awareness of the Every Child Matters movement and to support the Orange Shirt Society. With the funds raised, we donated $500 to the Orange Shirt Society and have set aside the remaining funds for a $1000 scholarship that will be awarded to an Indigenous student from Rotary District 5370 attending a Canadian post-secondary institution.
We wear our orange shirts every year on September 30th and continue to do our best to honour, respect, and learn about the Indigenous peoples in Canada. More information about the scholarship will be available soon.
The Orange Shirt Society is a non-profit organization founded by Phyllis Webstad. They are dedicated to supporting Indian Residential School reconciliation, creating awareness of the inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools, and creating awareness of "Every Child Matters".
